Tom Ridout is a fine art photographer whose striking objective style is focused on urban form. His current series titled ‘Concession’ documents Toronto’s unique storefronts. The photographs reflect the city’s past and its rapid economic and cultural changes. Tom’s close examination of older storefronts reveals a fragile wash of elements from various points in time, expressed in both the exterior surfaces and interior spaces. Diana’s is part of the series that groups storefronts by type: beauty salons, restaurants, laundromats, hardware stores, corner variety stores and clothing stores. Diana’s won a jury award at the recent Living Arts Centre exhibition. In 2014 Tom’s art has been displayed in number of shows and events including Walnut Contemporary Gallery, SNAP! (Toronto), Quest Art Gallery (Midland), Elora Centre for the Arts, Grimsby Public Art Gallery, Project Gallery (Toronto), Mississauga Living Arts Centre Gallery, John B. Aird Gallery (Toronto), and the Scarab Club (Detroit). His photography was selected for the upcoming Robert McLaughlin Gallery ‘Exposed’ fundraiser as well as for the 2015 ACT SNAP! live auction.
